Kendo requires its own set of traditional japanese equipment
Beginners are required to buy their own shinais (bamboo swords). Beginners will then learn important fundamental techniques and safety precautions. During practice they will only need to wear regular sports attire
After getting familiar with the routine practices, beginners should consider to committing themselves to kendo in the long term and invest in buying the uniform; a kendogi and hakama
Once beginners are confident with the basics, they may use kendo-specific protective gear and use the techniques practiced in real sparring
How much does it cost?
Kendo Club members are required to pay $25 of Quarter Fee and sign a waiver every Quarter.
We do lend shinai for new members the first few practices. However we do require everyone to own their own shinai. Shinai (bamboo blades) cost $25 and uniforms are $100 a set and all of them could be purchased through the club.
Unfortunately we require those who want to learn more advanced kendo techniques to invest in the uniform. However rest assured, they are traditional and authentic kendogi and hakama. If you have troubles in buying one, please do contact one of our officers and we could sort it out together.

For the Bogu/protective gear, we recommend buying your own set. However we do lend Bogu sets to members, provided that the club has a set available to lend.
